Repurpose GW Finds

My GW days are pretty frequent
I see the same people every time I go-
We are all there to find the "treasure" someone else discarded as trash-

People get rid of the most amazing things and until a few years ago, I was one of those people too!
We are the dumpster family-
My husband is big on clearing things out, so every few years he orders a dumpster that sits in our driveway(sorry neighbors!) and we fill it with broken things.  Even last night he offered to go to the dump for me to get rid of things in the garage- I shudder at the thought- I can remake repurpose and reuse- my hoarder's heart is a flutter.

My latest repurpose are with lamps, pretty lamps mind you.  I remove the cords, shades, bulb sockets and I have my way with them.
Sometimes I paint them but others, I shine up-

Here are a few I recently added to my collection-

Can't wait to show you my newest repurposed creations!

How to make Pumpkin Centerpieces

Pumpkin Season is here in full force-
No matter where you turn, faux pumpkins are in every craft store across America!
You can't miss them-

I love a great white pumpkin and if your not into orange in your decor, white's the way to go-

With sales galore, you can pick one up and turn it into a holiday centerpiece that will last a lot longer than fresh flowers or pine boughs( getting a bit ahead of myself- not the Christmas season yet, although some stores would make you believe it's time to trim the tree!)

Foam pumpkins are easy to transform- cut out the stem and make a hole large enough to fil with flowers- no need to add anything to adhere the stems- it's all foam so the flowers glide in- add your favorites, hydrangeas, mums, sunflowers, berries, leaves, pods- whatever strikes your fancy.  You don't have to be a designer to get a beautiful look- add a simple bow, with ribbon or burlap to dress it up.  Your holiday table will thank you for adding to its beauty.

This is an adorable idea I found on Pinterest-

The dollar store has small faux pumpkins- try it out on these first before you pay a little more for a big beauty- have fun with this- be creative, be inventive, be you.

You can even cut out the center of a foam pumpkin and add a small succulent plant still in its plastic pot and fit it in snugly to the pumpkin- a great look without the cost of silk flowers.

You can check out all the pumpkin arrangements at your local Michaels craft stores- they have every size imaginable but they cost a pretty penny too, so try your own, go for it!

With this foam pumpkin, no cutting was needed- a wooden skewer slid in easily and I added a silk sunflower into each hole-

After all the sunflowers were attached, I pulled the plastic stem out and added my own version-
A wired stick with a silk leaf wired to it.

Now, I have a sunflower topiary made from a foam pumpkin!

Check out my Pumpkin board on Pinterest for more inspirations and get busy!

DIY Simple Fall Decor

With the leaves turning colors and the air feeling crisp-thoughts turn to creating a warm cozy feeling in our homes.

Adding touches of fall colors with layers of warmth can take your home to the next season without breaking the bank.

Silk floral, faux pumpkins and foliage are the key ingredients in adding warmth to your look-

Candles set the mood all year, but as days grow shorter, it's a lovely feeling to add ambience- I love using pre lit candles with timers- set them to come on as the sun sets. A welcome to you after a long day.

Golden sunflowers and mums are an easy way to welcome in the season- a wreath on the front door and pots of glorious colored mums at your entrance will make a warm and inviting welcome to your home.

Fruit and flowers combined are a true feeling of Harvest time. Combining the two in an arrangement or a wreath creates a sense of natures bounty at its best.

Leaves, real or silk, add layers of warm color to your home imitating the change of seasons and bringing nature indoors.

Pumpkins are aplenty this time of year.  Again, real or faux, pumpkins make decorating for this season fun and easy.  Display a ball of mini pumpkins in a big wooden bowl with seasonal fruits and vegetables.  Make an arrangement of faux pumpkins- add silk flowers, paint them, glitter them, dress them up- check out my Pinterest board of Pumpkins with over 200 ideas of fun projects to do with them- amazing creativity!

Take a walk, collect acorns, twig branches, leaves and berries- add these to vases and bowls-
Nothing fancy, just a touch of Autumn's Harvest to welcome the season with color and warmth into your home.

You're one step away from adding Fall inspiration to your home decor!

Pinterest Project Failed

Have you ever had a simple project in your head and you are so excited to get started?

Me too!

Burlap pumpkins from the Dollar Store seemed like a fantastic and quick little project that any DIY'er could do, right?

There was inspiration all over Pinterest- and I had all the materials on hand- simple, no new cost and adorable- I didn't even consider I'd fail in this little endeavor- lol!

I used natural colored burlap and orange to spice it up! I cut the burlap into strips, mod podged the pumpkins, layered the podge on the burlap, pressed it down on the $1 pumpkin- in the crevices and around the stem.  It wasn't really easy to smooth down the sides but I'm impatient in every way so I kept squeezing the burlap tighter and tighter.

Don't know if that was my problem- my inability to wait for things to dry or my inability to admit a fail on this project. I re coated with mod podge 2x- it didn't look great but I waited it out.....

This morning, they looked like this- sad, sad little pumpkins....

Well, you win some, you lose some and this was a big loser- lucky for me I didn't spend lots to get them to this stage! They are heading to the pumpkin patch graveyard!

I won't even mention my attempt at the scrapbook paper- mod podge disaster!

On to the next project but may not include burlap and mod podge!

DIY Shell Ring Holders

I've been making a lot of jewelry these days
for my etsy shop.
I came across a package of scallop shells at my favorite "boutique" and decided to try my hand at jewelry holders- at first, I glued a smaller shell to the flat top but as I got more interested, I bought baking scallop shells at a great kitchen supply store in my area.

The skies the limit when it comes to creating ring holders-
Spray paint in many colors-

You are only limited to your imagination- so, go wild!

Add charms, jewels, beads!

I also add beautiful sparkly beads to the backs to act as feet-
The possibilities are endless!

A perfect spot to hold that special piece of jewelry-

What a cute idea to use in a wedding ceremony!

You can customize them to go with any decor.
Sweet and simple shell dishes that serve a purpose-
what's not to love about these?
