DIY Book Page Wreath

I'm a wreath junkie-
wreathes are a weakness of mine,
(along with chalkboards, and ice cream!)

Pinterest has been a great way to feed my habit-
Sometimes, just pinning a gorgeous wreath,
gives me the feeling of almost making one!

I love all wreathes created with book pages and coffee filters-
I made a coffee filter wreath
 a few years back and
it still looks as good as new-

I've made crafts with book pages but never a wreath,
so with my sister's recent move,
the perfect opportunity sprang up
to fashion her a book page wreath for her new home!
Books are a huge part of her life-
she reads books, writes books and edits books-

She's the perfect candidate for a book page wreath-

I bought the wreath frame a couple of years ago
 on clearance at Michael's-

You can use anything as a base-
re purpose a  pizza box, reshape a hanger,
anything you have around that can form a circle-

You can rip pages out of any book-
it can be a thrift store find, a duplicate
 and even cookbooks, etc-
It can also be a subject with special meaning to you
or no meaning at all!

I ripped pages from an old book I had from Goodwill,
but it happened to be one of her favorite authors-

The simple process is folding the page,
depending on the page size-
Like making a paper fan- simple, right?

Make a lot - there's nothing worse than a skimpy wreath-
The size really depends on what you use as a base-

Layer the pages around the ring-
so far, so good!

I wanted to add a little extra to the wreath-
I made these rosettes a few years back,
you can see them here
and I decided to try my hand at it again-

I cut circles from the pages

Cut around the circle, making spirals-

Roll the spiral from the outside into the center,
 gluing as you go-
the end of the spiral makes a flat base
for the rose to sit on-

I love these little rosettes- if I had more patience,
they'd be all over my house!

I love the added corsage of paper rosettes-
adding just the right amount of sweetness
to complete this wreath!

Now, I get to give it away..

The Gray Bathroom

With all the snow we've had this winter-
We have been hunkered down in our house a-lot!

TV is a good distraction,
 crocheting, reading, blogging and
even planning a new Etsy shop has kept me busy-
But, when I'm inside for too long,
I notice things that need painting-

Therefore, the bathroom was my next victim-

This is a small powder room and
the only one on the first floor-

It was painted a pale green, the peachy tile is original-
about 60 years old- in good shape
but the color leaves much to be desired-
I ignore it and usually cover it up with a large throw rug-
But now, I have my new painted rug!

This is a good closeup of the tile floor-

 I had leftover paint
from my laundry room project so
it was time for a change-

I taped around the window, ceiling and trim-
so proud of myself, I never do the proper prep!

I love the color in here, still using the same gallon of Martha Stewart's "cement" color paint-

Remember the rug I painted-

The fabric is just hanging over the rod for now,
gotta get the sewing machine going again and
I found some odd reclaimed wood box
which will be part of the window treatment-
I'll show you that when it's done!

You never know what you'll find at GW,
but I do love the goodwill hunting

and after looking at these pictures of the floor-
I feel another change coming!!

Take care, gotta fly-

DIY Painted Rug

I wanted a rug to go with my newly painted powder room
but I didn't want to spend much money-

Some of my DIY projects that start with what I already have,
don't always stay within my under $10 budget-
but the powder room was painted with leftover paint
and I had already purchased fabric for the window
- so use what ya got- right?
But, I hated the throw rug I had so, I scoured Pinterest for some inspiration-

Boy, did I find it- these bloggers took the idea of painting a rug
 to a whole new level!!

So, what did I have to lose!!

The throw rug is cream, and it was about $10
but I was never happy with it, so
time to try painting-

I chose a simple block pattern-
had tape and no stencils so used what I had-

As you can see, I taped the rug onto the wood floor
 and eyeballed the pattern-

I pressed the tape down with my nails
to make sure it was adhered tight enough
so paint wouldn't seep under the tape-
I also used a junky brush and tapped the heck out of it!

Now, the fun part-
ripping off the tape and crossing my fingers
that no paint seeped under the tape-

Yea!! It worked!!

Not bad, for a project that took 30 minutes-
I love how easy this was-
and best of all, no $$ was spent
since I used the leftover paint
from the laundry room makeover and the powder room-
amazing what you can do with one gallon of paint!!

You can see a snippet of the new wall color in that picture too!

Love the new rug, and I can't wait to try it out on a larger one
with a cool stencil!
