DIY Fabric Covered Cork Board

I always need a cork board in my kitchen-
I'm a note gal, so its convenient for reminders-

I had my photo calender pinned to it but it was looking bare
and with leftover fabric from my kitchen curtains, I decided to
dress it up a bit!

I love the finished look of the cork board now!

Take care, gotta fly-

Lampshade copycat

One of my favorite stores to browse through
 during the holiday season
 is Pier 1

The colors, scents, ornaments, wreaths, pillows, and holiday cheer
makes me feel like a Christmas elf in paradise!

A few weeks back, I was strolling the aisles and saw a beauty of a lamp-

The lampshade took my breath away-
I examined it and thought-
humm...
I may be able to copy it-
so I tried..
I began with the lampshade and the flat sheet-
cut the sheet into strips-

Then twisted each strip
dabbing hot glue along the way
(burning my fingers into little blister rosettes!!)
until it became a circlet of fabric-

In each center-
glue a few plastic clear jewels-

I gently glued them around the edge of the lampshade!

And this is how it looks...

I so love it

Rosette Hayworth Lamp

It looks just like it-

well....maybe not exactly
but similiar!!
And without the $99 price tag!!

 I had the lampshade-
I bought a twin flat sheet for $5 at Walmart-
and the clear jewels were from my scrapbooking stash-
woohoo!!!

Love when that happens!!

A project I love
for almost no MONEY!!

Well, take care, gotta fly- Claire

Where have all the fabric stores gone?

Lately, I've been into making pillows
ruffled, rosettes,toile,silk, burlap with bees!
I'm always trolling the fabric stores-whoops-I mean store-
Have you seen a decrease of fabric stores in your area??
I'm so sad -we had some fab fabric stores in some surrounding towns and -
all gone
Joann's is the only one in town-literally!
I've ordered fabric online and luckily it's all worked out fine-
you buy a swatch to match it up at home
and then the online store credits you
when you place your actual order-

But,
I miss the touch,
the feel of the fabric between my fingers-
touching the computer screen doesn't feel the same!
Just thought I'd share my thoughts with my online therapists!!
Have a great day-

Ruffled mirror, part deux!!

So, I have to say,
my white ruffled mirror totally inspired me!

Funny thing is,
 you see,
 I have another mirror
 just like it
in black
 and
 I got itchy fingers.
 You know what that means!!!!

I need to heat up the glue gun
and
start ruffling it up again!!

 I looked through my stash
and this is what I found!!

I decided to try my own suggestion
and
use fabrics
instead of crepe paper!

I cut the fabric into 3 inch strips,

started in a corner with some hot glue and began gathering and scrunching up the fabric.  I began with the black and when that was completely glued to the frame,

I started with the gingham and glued that on top of the black ruffle.  I make two rows of ruffles with the check- really because it was so cute!!

I added a cute, chunky rosette made of black and white toile with a double rose crepe paper center.  This added the final accessory to the dressed up mirror!
Well, off to make more ruffles-
take care-gotta fly-Claire
