3 chairs= a big beautiful bench!

This project has been a long time in coming.  Well, a long time in my world because I have 24- hour- itis!
My sister found these chairs for me during bulk trash this September.  I don't know about you, but finding "good" junk on the side of the road is almost better than an ice cream sundae!  Take these 3 chairs for instance.  Brown wood, ugly upholstery, broken leg supports- nightmare-really!! What was I going to do with 3 broken chairs?  But, then it hit me.  They had great curved backs and together they formed something beautiful!

Well, I stripped them down naked, and painted them all over with some satin Krylon black spraypaint.  Thought maybe I'd reupholster the seats but chucked the inerds (is that a word??) and just kept the wooden seat.
I reattached them and sprayed them black too. The crazy ingenious part was attaching the chairs together to form a bench.  I drilled a hole in the front side and back side of each seat and used a 2 inch nut and bolt to keep them from slipping apart.  I also gave them a quick squirt of gorilla glue to adhere even better.  Now to make a cushion.  I can sew but I'm far from a professional! LOL!

I got 4 foam seat cushion's at Joann's. I used spray adhesive to attach them together and form a long cushion.  I then trimmed the edges so the cushion was form fitting the shape of the chairs.

I covered the cushion with a blue/ white floral fabric that coordinates with my toile room. A little navy cording trimmed the top of the cushion.  I added a pleated skirt to the cushion and ties to keep it attached to the chair and I'm truly lovin" it!  You know when you can't take your eyes off something- BINGO-this is it!!  Well, gotta fly-Claire

  22. Wow I can't believe that someone just junked those. I wish I could have been the finder. They actually are Duncan Fife chairs. I have a Duncan Fife table with the chairs. Some of those go for quite a bit of $$$.
