Neighborly Love

My sister lives in a fab neighborhood about a mile from me-

I have to say, she has the best neighbors!

Earlier last year, she gave me a quick call early Easter morn,

 that her neighbor had put some furniture out to be tossed-

"Was I interested?"

No one who loves to paint furniture is ever not interested!

I zipped down and lucky me, I found a great table and 6 chairs-

all of the Pottery Barn variety!

It is still in my garage but that's not for me to makeover-

my daughter is claiming this for her apartment-lucky gal!

But, a few weeks back, the same lovely neighbor called my sis
 to see if I was interested in a desk she was getting rid of?

Sight unseen, I said, "YES"!!

It was a beauty with just a couple of repairs I couldn't wait to tackle!

a drawer needed some glue

So, after some glue and wood putty

and my fave Annie Sloan chalk paint and Martha Stewart's

 metallic silver paint for the hardware-

 

 

 

I even added some dollar store shelf paper inside the drawers!

I've gotta say-

this is just what the front hall needed-

light - bright- and storage to boot!

How To Add Chaos to Christmas

I was very late getting my holiday decor set-

Many things got in the way-

the first being- my faux tree's metal trunk snapped in half

so I had to go for a quick trip to purchase a new one-

That set me back abit!

Then, the frame I transformed for my mantel, broke in pieces as I went to hang it-

never checked the sturdiness of my GW find

before I began!

So, what's a DIY'er to do-

add more chaos in the mix-

 I had my ASCP out to paint the canvas frame

 and I decided to put a quick coat of blue on the top of my side table-
Last year, I found this worn table at GW-

Painted it cream, and called it a day-

Really for no reason other than the fact
 I seem to enjoy adding chaos to a very

Stressful situation -

Nuts, you may say-

Yes

I have to agree with you but I have a lot of white holiday decor 

and it was blending in too much!


I love the pop of color in a sea of white and
Who knows, maybe I'll change it again in the new year-
Isn't that the way we roll?!!

Tale of two dressers

I love a great piece of

painted furniture, don't you?

This dresser has been in my dining room for years-

It began its life in maple-

then it was painted black-

It was then "harlequinned"-

I got tired of it

you know what I mean?

I got my ASCP out and went to town-

my inspiration was from the Wisteria catalog-

eye candy to swoon over

I got busy-

First, I began with ASCP Greek blue,

then gave it a wash of ASCP Old White

and another

sorry about the night light effect-

it was really baby blue-

not the silvery blue I was looking for-

I searched the blog tutorials

with all the creative silvery effects but I

was in a time crunch-company arriving-

Don't you always get into a messy room project

when your expecting people?

That's usually when I'm most productive!

But....

it lacked the oomph I was looking for-

so

I "chalked" it up as a reject

I decided to lighten it up

and went with ASCP in Old White

and after all that

I love it-

it lighten up the room and the light wax

gives it a real finished look!

I painted all the black iron knobs the same color too!

Only thing I changed was the top two larger knobs-

ASCP covers anything-even brass lion heads!

Looks true white in this morning shot but so do the walls

and they are truly cream

It's a new fresh look that I adore-

my inspiration piece was a beauty

but I couldn't get the look of it

and I'm thrilled with this re-do!

Partying at...

GW Serving Cart

My last GW trip was a success when I found this cart-

It was just a bit needy- some tlc was all it needed-

so, I flipped it over, secured it up with a piece of wood

 to add new wheels to and

screwed it all together!!

I got out my fave ASCP in Paris Grey and the dark wax-

I knew it needed some pizazz along with the paint

so I checked out the blog, The Graphic Fairy!

There were so many graphics to choose from

but I figured I may use it in a bar serving cart
 so that's what I set out to find-

  I also wanted something French,

 s'il vous plait!!

  So, these were the two graphics I found.

I grabbed some transfer paper
and traced over the graphics

 directly onto the top of the cart-

Then I waxed it but it was way too dark
 and I couldn't rub it off

 so I googled some ideas-

I had clear wax

 and it was suggested to apply this over the dark

 to remove what I didn't want and it worked-

good tip to remember!

I'm really happy with the results!!
