My goodwill hutch

My trip to Goodwill scored this cute little hutch - $39- I did the happy little bargain dance and quietly tore the tag off and skipped to the cashier!  This was not in pristine condition but I've seen worse.  Both sides had peeling veneer and my idea was to use beadboard to cover up the ugly!  On my hunt, I stumbled upon paintable "tin ceiling" wallpaper - BINGO- I found the perfect solution. I measured it, cut it, spray adhesived it.  I gave the whole piece a few coats of  satin black spraypaint.  I added crystal knobs and it's ready for its premiere!  At least, it's ready for a Christmas collection or two!  Well, gotta fly! Bench pillow

Now that my bench is complete and sitting so perfectly in my dining room, I thought it could use an accessory-doesn't everyone need a necklace to perk things up?!!  Found some coordinating striped fabric that looks perfect to cozy up to. The fabric was a home dec style so at 54" wide, the pillow was the perfect width for the bench.   Some poly fill, pom pom trim and we were set to go!  It adds that special little finishing touch to my beauteous bench!  Well, gotta fly- Claire

3 chairs= a big beautiful bench!

This project has been a long time in coming.  Well, a long time in my world because I have 24- hour- itis!
My sister found these chairs for me during bulk trash this September.  I don't know about you, but finding "good" junk on the side of the road is almost better than an ice cream sundae!  Take these 3 chairs for instance.  Brown wood, ugly upholstery, broken leg supports- nightmare-really!! What was I going to do with 3 broken chairs?  But, then it hit me.  They had great curved backs and together they formed something beautiful!

Well, I stripped them down naked, and painted them all over with some satin Krylon black spraypaint.  Thought maybe I'd reupholster the seats but chucked the inerds (is that a word??) and just kept the wooden seat.
I reattached them and sprayed them black too. The crazy ingenious part was attaching the chairs together to form a bench.  I drilled a hole in the front side and back side of each seat and used a 2 inch nut and bolt to keep them from slipping apart.  I also gave them a quick squirt of gorilla glue to adhere even better.  Now to make a cushion.  I can sew but I'm far from a professional! LOL!

I got 4 foam seat cushion's at Joann's. I used spray adhesive to attach them together and form a long cushion.  I then trimmed the edges so the cushion was form fitting the shape of the chairs.

I covered the cushion with a blue/ white floral fabric that coordinates with my toile room. A little navy cording trimmed the top of the cushion.  I added a pleated skirt to the cushion and ties to keep it attached to the chair and I'm truly lovin" it!  You know when you can't take your eyes off something- BINGO-this is it!!  Well, gotta fly-Claire

Hair bow holders!

18 month old Charlotte

3 year old Kate

You remember Kate, my niece.  Her birthday is right around the corner and one of the things I've made for her is a hair bow holder for her room. A wooden disc, yarn for braids, and a wee bit 'o paint completes the project! (The other one I made is just too darn small for her collection!)  Now that her red hair is beginning to flow, her momma has been buying all the coordinating bows she can find.  What's a girl to do with all her accessories?  Put them on display, of course!! Now my other cutie patootie niece, Charlotte has teeny- tiny blonde hair-no bows yet-but just think of all the ribbons coming her way!!I should start making bows for these two beauties!   Well gotta fly-Claire

Thanksgiving name "cards"!

Many years back, when my kids were young, I made these cute little name "cards" for my Thanksgiving table.  As my extended family grew, new hats were added. We are now up to 13 grandchildren and 11 adults.  They are so easy to make, your kids can help! Your kids will love it and your guests will feel extra special knowing everyone got involved in the tablescape!
Paint a mini clay pot black, the rim is painted a different color.   My hats all have polka dots because I just love me some dots!  In my family , the men have dark blue rims, the women have red rims, the little boys have light blue rims and the little girls have pink rims! Cut out a tiny yellow foam piece to look like a buckle and a black foam circle underneath the pot to look like the hat brim!  The person's name in white along the rim and voila!  They add a cute, quirky little addition to each place setting and everyone knows exactly where to sit.
Another cutie pattotie turkey to place at each setting  is this one!  A turkey picture holder, a paper leaf and written on the back of the leaf
is something or someone you are thankful for. Short, sweet but meaningful
to the recipient! Well, take care- Gotta fly-Claire
